Announcement: Welcome!

West Valley High School started playing football in 1982.  The Eagles started out with very limited success only posting one winning season and one play-off birth in the first  years.  West Valley struggled to win many games in the early years and actually were winless for their first three seasons.  But that was then!   Now the Eagles are arguably one of the elite programs in Northern California.  Coach Grandell enters his 20th season at West Valley and it is his aggressive no nonsense approach to football that has put the Eagles on the map.  Guiding one of the most outstanding fundraising communities helps ensure that Eagle players can attend the highest level camps and afford the highest quality support staff connected to football in the area.   For example, a full time trainer in Tom Reuss as well the areas only paid strength coach in Coach Rich Harris.  Also West Valley boasts an on staff expert video producer and filmer, that can have game footage ready and available for coaching staff as well as college recruiters.   Having fundraising coordinators to put on the biggest football fundraising event in the north state;  “West Valley Football Dinner Dance” is just one area the Eagle program has no equals.  Another strength of Coach Grandell’s has been staffing the program with experienced high profile coaches.  Offensive co-coordinator Jim Vert, and long time running back and defensive end coach Rick Rice has brought consistency within the coaching staff.  Grandell’s approach brought about the areas first ever strength coach James Smith, who now is the strength coach at the University of Pittsburgh, along with the areas first all football period (class) and many “team” camps that others have tried but failed to copy.

Winning has become a way of life at West Valley as the Eagles have been in the play-offs for the last decade and have played for the Section Crown 6 of the last 10 years.   Winning the division two section in 1992 and winning the division one section title in 2004 against a school twice its size, showcased the Eagles’ strength and speed program.  The tradition of winning football has produced some outstanding players.  Matt Nichols, former West Valley Q.B. and now at Eastern Washington University, was a finalist for the Walter Peyton Award in 2009 and was named Big Sky player of the year twice!  Ross Griffith former all N.A.L. linebacker is now the Eagles Defensive co-coordinator.  It has been a family atmosphere that has made Eagle Football something special and something people want to associate with and want to support.  With the solid program, and talent at the lower levels and junior programs (2009 Midget State Champs) West Valley High School is destined for continued success!

– Head Coach Greg Grandell
